Droupadi Mormu was born on 20th June 1958, at Mayurbhanj District in Odisha. She got married with Shyam Charan Mormu, Who was a Banker, died in the year of 2014. She had two son and a daughter. Both the sons were died. Within a short period she lost her husband, two sons, mother and a brother, as a results she spiritually associated herself with the Brahma Kumaris. She did graduate from Rama Devi Women College.

Before starting political career she worked as an Assistant Professor at the Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research Institute, Rairangpur and as a Junior Assistant at Irrigation Department, Govt. of Odisha.

Draupadi Murmu was join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the year of 1997 and was elected as the councillor of the Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat. She became the Chairperson of Rairangpur Nagar Panchayat In the year of 2000 and also served as the National Vice-President of BJP Scheduled Tribes Morcha. By doing the good work at the party she was finally able to become the first tribal to become Jharkhand governor. She was the first female tribal leader from Odisha to be appointed as a Governor of the Indian State.
